Maternity & Newborn SESSION faqs

I am keeping up to date with and following the regulations in Sacramento and neighboring counties.  I will continue to wear a mask and social distance during your session.  For now I am asking that you bring any props we decide to use during your session, such as blankets to sit on.

If I were to experience any symptoms related to Covid-19 or come into contact with anyone who has tested positive within a week of your session I will notify you and reschedule your session.

If you have any concerns, I'm happy to discuss them with you.

What Covid-19 safety precautions are you taking?

Newborn Sessions work best within the first 10 days when baby is still sleeping a lot of the time.  However, since my style is more unposed and relaxed anytime within the first few weeks is fine.  Since babies arrive on their own schedule we won't cement a date in my calendar until after he or she is born.

Maternity Sessions are ideally held around 24-32 weeks - when you have that adorable baby bump but aren't incredibly uncomfortable.  We'll get your session on my calendar for around that time, but I'm flexible if we need to reschedule to accommodate how you're feeling.

When should I schedule my session?

Because I do lifestyle sessions for newborns (sorry, no froggy poses) I recommend that you have the your whole immediate family involved in the session (whomever resides in your home).  I want to capture your connection and interaction so you have a complete picture of this brief yet rich moment in time.

If you have additional family members, like grandparents who are visiting, or would like to participate in the session they are welcome to.  There is a $25 charge per extra participant.

You are welcome to keep this session all for yourself, or include your partner and other children if you have them.  We'll discuss it and I'm happy to help you decide which option is best for you if you're unsure.

Who can I include in my session?

You should dress casual, comfortable and coordinated.  We'll discuss the specifics during your Planning Consultation and I'll make sure you feel confident picking something out.  I'll also be available to give you input on outfits you're considering via text if you'd like.

During your Planning Consultation we'll talk about outfit ideas and I'll give you tips and suggestions.  You can also send me snapshots of some of your outfit ideas if you'd like my input.  It's completely up to you whether you want to purchase a beautiful maternity gown, or wear something more informal.

What should I wear?

** In-home sessions will be allowed on a case-by-case basis depending on the current status of the Covid-19 regulations in our county and our ability to determine the safety of doing so for both myself and your family.

Outdoor sessions are an alternative option for newborn sessions.  While we wouldn't be able to capture your home environment, we can still creatively create images that capture your new family dynamic.

These sessions take place in the comfort of your own home.**  This allows us to capture the full picture of what life was like during your little one's first days at home.

After I get to know you and learn about your vision for your session I'll have a number of suggestions for you. I love to pick a location that suits you and your personality and will compliment the decor in your home (if you're going to display your portraits on your walls).  I have lots of favorite locations around the Sacramento area, but also love doing the session right in your home.**

What location is best for my session?

Newborn sessions typically take around 2 hours, however, I'm laid-back and flexible and will stay as long as I need to capture all of the images I need to fulfill your desires for your portraits.  Of course, I'm also very respectful of your time and if you say we're done, we're done!

I'm not a clock-watcher and sessions with me are laid back and relaxed.  I recommend you allow 60-90 minutes and if possible, don't schedule anything right after your session so you won't feel rushed.  That being said, I'm also very respectful of your time and if you need to stick to a shorter time frame I'm happy to oblige.

How long will the session take?

This is one of the beautiful things about in-home sessions!  Rain or shine we're good to go.  I may bring some lighting equipment in case it's a very dark day.  If we've scheduled an outdoor location for your session the above contingencies apply.

If the forecast shows rain other other inclement weather on the day of your outdoor session we'll reschedule for another day.  Or we can also consider an indoor session at your home or renting a studio or other space.  We'll keep in contact in the days leading up to your session if the weather's looking bad and make the final call as late as the day before the session if needed.

What if it rains?

I understand that life happens, so if you need to reschedule and let me know at least 48 hours prior to your session I will do my best to find another time that works for you.  However, if you need to change the session date a second time a rescheduling fee may apply.

If you or someone in your family is sick, by all means let's find you a new spot on my calendar.  Please do not bring sick family members to your session even if they are feeling relatively well.

What if I need to reschedule?

One to two weeks after your session we will meet via Zoom for your Image Reveal and Ordering Session.  Grab your favorite beverage (and a box of tissues!) and gather around the computer to view your slideshow of images.  I request that all decision makers be present.

I'll then walk you through an easy, no-pressure process to choose your favorite images and how you want to display them.  You'll even be able to see what they'll look like on your own walls  just by sending me a photo of where you want to hang them.

What happens after the session?

As soon as your order has arrived and passed my inspection I will deliver your wall art and/or keepsakes to your home.**  The time frame may vary depending on what you order, however, most orders should be delivered within 3-4 weeks.

** Home delivery is a complimentary service within 20 miles of Gold River.  If you live outside of that area a delivery fee may apply, or other arrangements may be made to pick up your order.

How long will it take to get my printed portraits?

I believe strongly in the importance and value of printed images, so your experience with me is not complete until you have your portraits in your hands and/or on your walls to enjoy every day.  That being said, I know how much you want to share your images online.  I offer them as a complete digital image gallery and they are priced on a sliding scale based on your print purchase.  Once you reach a certain investment amount your complete digital gallery is included with your print order at no extra charge.
